COVID-19

We are OPEN and Monitoring Advice

First Aid in Cairns (A.B.N 75 651 926 626 and R.T.O 45723) delivering nationally accredited training and assessment  are monitoring the advice issued by the Australian Government and following the guidelines to manage the risk associated with COVID-19.

When visiting or attending a first aid course at our air conditioned shop at Campus Shopping Village, Smithfield Cairns,
please don't forget to sign in via the Check in QLD app.

From 17 December 2021, and following advice from QLD Health, we will be checking to see if you have the "green tick"
when using the Check in QLD app. The "green tick",  means that you are fully vaccinated.
If you don't have the green tick, don't worry. You may still join one of our courses,
providing you wear a mask and observe social distancing.
We have a BYO mask policy. Masks can be purchased from AMCAL or SPAR at Campus Shopping Village, Smithfield.

Don't be afraid to ask for assistance, if you are new to technology.
Or if you need assistance to link your COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate to your Check in QLD app.
We would be more than happy to assist with you.

First Aid in Cairns is committed to do everything we can
to keep our students, customers and staff safe, during this pressing time,
when first aid skills are especially needed in the essential services of
electrical, emergency dental, nurses, childcare and home care industries. To name, but just a few.

What are We Doing to Minimise Risk?

First Aid in Cairns is  taking a proactive approach to prevent the spread of the disease by following precautions which have been implemented at our training facility at Smithfield, Cairns:
*  All hard surfaces (eg. desks, chairs, benches, tables) and objects (telephones, keyboards, door-handles etc) are wiped with disinfectant regularly.
* Hand washing is encouraged throughout the course and additional medical grade hand sanitising hand rub dispenser is provided around the workplace
* Posters promoting proper hand washing techniques are posted at the sink in the classroom, along with paper hand towel dispensers
* Class sizes will be limited to 10 students to ensure that participants do not have to sit or work in close proximity to each other (social distancing).
* Breaks are given every 2 hours
* Each participant has their own desk and resuscitation manikins (adult, infant and child).  All manikins will be sanitised, including the face skins prior to use.  This will ensure cross contamination does not occur.  Additional face shields will be provided during our workshops to provide another level of hygiene
* For other First Aid techniques such as bandaging, splints etc, students will bandage themselves
* We minimise physical contact between each other in the training facility, using the same COVID-19 policies as hairdressers in QLD
* For other activities, students will utilise our full body manikins to avoid person to person contact, where possible
* If person to person contact does occur, during practical activities, breaks are given every 20 minutes
* Students will watch a recovery position video and then will be required to put themselves into the recovery position
* All First Aid supplies are one use only

Prerequisites for Enrolment

* Upon entering the facility, students are required to verbally answer questions about their health
* We ask that anyone who has travelled anywhere overseas or interstate must not visit our training centre for at least 14 days of self isolation after their return.   In addition to this, we will comply with any future government advice relating to travel.
* Also, anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has been overseas or interstate (such as a family member) should not visit our training centre for 14 days
* We would also advise that those who have someone self isolating in their household that they too should defer attendance to classes
* Anyone with a fever or history of fever and acute respiratory infection (with at least one of the following symptoms:   shortness of breath, cough or sore throat) should also defer enrolment or attendance to classes until they are well
* Our trainers have been instructed that if participants are exhibiting flu like symptoms they may be asked to leave to ensure the safety of everyone
* If you are not vaccinated or fully vaccinated, you are required to wear a mask during your course

We appreciate your understanding in these difficult times. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions
